Who Else Wants To Tweak Windows XP For A Faster PC

Windows XP has lots of colours, themes and similar special effects to make your PC look great. These effects slow down your PC and that is the main problem.

If your computer is running slow, and you are sure you do not have a virus, spyware or adware, you may try using some of these Win XP tweaks. The more special effects you remove the better.

Some of the effects that slow your PC are:

1. Pictures on the desktop background. A blank wallpaper is the best. Animations or even sounds in the background slow PC even more. Remove Shortcuts on the Desktop. This will be described further below as well.

Right click on My Computer icon and select properties. Go to Advanced Tab, and select Settings next to Performance. Finally select Adjust for best performance. Click OK twice. That is one of the best Win XP tweaks.

2. Is your browser by default plain, or did you install many extensions, themes and cursor symbols? Those slow down speed, so removing them is the best solution if you have a slow PC.

Switch to Windows Classic Theme by right clicking on Desktop and go to Properties.

3. Sounds also cause speed problems, so removing them is another good tweak. These include also startup and shutdown sounds. Remove sounds from your control panel. Double click on the Sounds icon.

4. A lot of MsWord, Notepad, Image and similar files scattered around on your desktop or located in shortcuts can be removed or arranged.

Create new folders, and organise your files. A folder for MsWord documents, images, sounds and Notepad files so you do not waste space.

Shortcuts on your desktop, in start menu and anywhere else can be removed to tweak XP. These are unwanted and are safe to be removed. You know if an icon is a shortcut or not because once you click delete you can read:

"Are you sure you want to delete this shortcut?"

5. Use the search tool to find unwanted files. WIn XP search tool allows you to search for certain file types. For example you can search for only images .gif or .jpg. You can find all the images on your PC, and remove all the unwanted image files.

Same with sound files, documents and you will be amazed about this stuff that has piled up during the years. A brand new computer does not need to search for these files.

Be careful though when using this tweak. Do not remove files you are not sure what their use is. Some files may be system files useful for your PC to work well.

Doing so can damage your PC.

6. Bookmarks or favorites inside your web browser have their negative side too. Same with cookies, cache and browser history.

Remove unwanted sites from your favorites. In Internet Explorer remove cache, cookies and history by selecting Tools, Internet Options and clicking the desired action.

In other browsers these options can also be tweaked from the menu which is usually under Tools. Remove these unwanted files often, or weekly. A weekly or more often job is clearing your recycle bin which helps cleaning wasted space.

Those 6 tweaks will organise your PC for a faster performance. It is the basic for XP users who suffer from slow speed. Even if your PC is not slow, some of the tweaks are still useful in the long run.

Rundll Errors Explained

Rundll errors are commonly encountered by many computer users. Knowing that the internet is growing at a massive pace on a daily level, and that more than fifty million people are logged in at any moment, many of whom are new entrants to the internet (thanks to the massive infocomm infiltration in developing countries), I shall approach this article in a way that everyone can understand.

Firstly - The Mighty DLL

DLL files are basically system files that are integral to any and all programmes written for the Windows environment. These files are like vast codex's, libraries that contain information, in one's and zero's, keys, codes and data used by programmes for reasons that is specific to its operation.

These DLL's are shared by many programmes, a centralised databank where they can access. Why? Well, if every programme has its own exclusive code and language, they would operate singularly against each other, sharing no information with each other, which would be extremely slow. Windows uses DLL's to run many functions, many programmes, reusing code and instructions within them for speed and efficiency.

For the techie in you, we are concentrating today on the Rundll.exe (16-bit) and Rundll32.exe(32 bit) which are evident in all Windows OS's. These are the tools that Windows use to run functions within shared DLL's - programmes and applications

Rundll Errors - How the Mighty have Fallen

Rundll errors are caused when there is a command line confusion. Basically, this happens when Windows tries to load a dll file that isn't there - unable to locate the dll file a programme is trying to execute. In simple terms, the dll has a set of instructions- which Windows 'listens' to properly launch programmes and application. The problem occurs when there dll file or code within the file is missing, causing an error and possible system crash.

The Causes

Usually, rundll errors are caused by malicious malware and spyware, or even virus files that have infiltrated your computer. These pirate programmes and executables basically take over the files being shared by the rundll applications. Certain viruses change the structure of these shared dll's, transforming code lines or making them totally inaccessible. Trojan attacks insert fake .dll files within the system folder, that then download malicious software that can further corrupt the .dll library.

What happens? Rundll tries to access these files when programmes or applications are launched. The missing code, new conflicting dll instructions or even missing files causes the infamous 'rundll error' message log. It can even lead to total system crashes.

What to do

You can use antivirus and antispyware programmes that can alleviate the situation. They track down all malware and bad software, viruses and delete them from your system.

But that is not effective enough. What about the tracks and damages left behind? A good load of these faults are stored in the Windows Registry.Remember, the registry records everything that happens within the computer. Trojans and malware even, when changing or hijacking dll's, leave their imprints within the registry.

Use a Registry Cleaner

This is the total solution to your problem A good registry cleaner will track down all rundll errors and resolve them automatically. It can identify and highlight the dll errors as well as other errors left behind by malware and viruses, thus speeding up your computer and solving most of your desktop dilemmas.

Horde Power Leveling Secrets

So you want to power level your Horde toon, but you just are not sure how to do it or where to start. You bought a power leveling guide for the Horde, but it only allows you to play a hunter toon or it does not cover all the races and you just do not want to play a troll. Now, you have spent the money, and you are still sitting there, wondering what to do. Well, don't worry too much longer, here are a few power leveling secrets to get you started:

1. You don't have to do every quest in an area. Yes, that's right... you do not have to do every quest in every area. There are some quests that are simply a waste of time and take you too long to do that do not reward you enough. Professional power leveling companies know this, and now you do too.

2. Always group your quests together. Take a look at your quest log and see which quests are in the same areas of a zone. For example, if you see that you have three quests to the southwest of the Crossroads, do them all at the same time. This cuts way down on your play time, and maximizes your experience when you are going them. If you need to keep a sheet of paper near to write down what all you are after in one zone, do it. You will be amazed at how this simple tip can help you power level.

3. The Barrens is your power leveling friend! Most players who play undead or other races that end up by Undercity after their noob zones go on to play in Silverpine Forest and Hillsbrad to level to 20. But, this is NOT the place to do it. The Barrens is where all the power levelers hit to go from 12-20 in no time at all for almost all the Horde races except the Blood Elves. The quests that are in the Barrens have you kill many mobs at a time for your quests, which maximizes the xp you get from the quest.

4. Thousand Needles, Stonetalon Mountains, and Un'Goro Crater are some of the best places to farm mats for gold while you power level. Yep, professional power levelers know this - and now so do you. These three areas are overfilled with mining, herbs, and skinning and you can make tons of gold here while you are power leveling. So, not only will you be leveling your Horde toon at lightning speed, you will be raking in the gold while you do it.

5. Horde toons are the easiest to power level. It is an unspoken secret that Blizzard likes the Horde best... and most players figure this out pretty quickly. Horde toons are the easiest to power level because there are more quests for them to do, versus the Alliance who sometimes have to grind out a level before they can get more quests.

So, there you have it - 5 secrets to power leveling that you need to know. Of course, there are so many more secrets, and they are all in Flamewater's Horde Power Leveling Guide . When you are ready to power level your Horde toon to 70 in less than 15 days, check it out at http://www.HordePowerLevelingSecrets.com and find out all the secrets that those foreign power leveling companies don't want you to know!

Effective Fleet Management With GPS Technology

A Fleet Management System (FMS) helps the organization to take control of time and travel records, helping them to manage their vehicle fleet effectively and efficiently. The FMS frees the concerned personnel from having to track and verify missing or incomplete data or, worse, having to fill in mileage records by hand.

A well designed FMS, with a proven technology like the Global Positioning System (GPS) functioning as its core can help automated collection of accurate and real-time data like vehicle position, efficient and economical distribution of the load among various vehicles. Other major benefits accruing from a GPS-based FMS include obtaining fuel consumption, vehicle speeds and like data that can help to effectively manage and boost the efficacy of an extremely competitive industry.

A God-send for a manager with a fleet of vehicles to manage, the Global Positioning System is a constellation of 31 (as on Sep 07) satellites which help a body accurately calculate its position on the Earth's surface. It also calculates the body's speed and, obviously, the direction and is, therefore, used as an aid to navigation.

Since the constellation covers the whole Earth, any body can be tracked and monitored, anytime and anywhere - a pre-requisite for a successful fleet management system, and the secret of the success that GPS has enjoyed in logistics and the management of supply chains worldwide.

A fleet owner's primary concern rests with minimizing the (considerable) direct or indirect costs of operation and ensuring an optimal utilization of the capital-heavy vehicles. Another constant fear that is addressed by a GPS-based FMS is that of the drivers taking unscheduled halts or breaking their trip without authorization, thus throwing the fleet manager's plans out of kilter. The driver may be susceptible to or may succumb to temptations on a wearisome and mind-numbing long-haul trip, which can be monitored and corrected through these nifty and sophisticated systems.

Irrespective of the size of the fleet, in today's environment of cut-throat competition, no fleet owner can afford to not invest in a GPS based FMS since not only does it lead to colossal savings in terms of reduced repair bills, costs due to delays and reduced machinery wear and tear, it also converts into savings on the insurance front. Most insurance companies will charge a lower premium if they are satisfied that the fleet has an effective and functional GPS-based fleet management system in place.

Since GPS allows a minute-to-minute tracking of resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, incipient problems can be nipped in the bud and re-routing decisions can be made on the fly. This real-time tracking enables fuel-efficient routing, time-bound trips in addition to punctual and safe deliveries, which, in turn help the company garner goodwill and an increased flow of customers. It has increased customers mean profit - the bottom line.

Counting Down the Top Ten Video Games Ever Made - EVER!

Before I get to the list, let me first say that I've played a lot of video games. From Super Nintendo and Game boy to Xbox 360 and PC, I've definitely been around the block a few times when it comes to entertaining my thumbs. However, I also HAVEN'T played a lot of video games. This may seem contradictory to my earlier statement, but let's face it, not every person has played every video game. Even big name game websites have trouble ranking games because the "rankers" may be biased towards a game they played versus a game someone else said is really good. Therefore, I should probably rename this article "Top Ten Video Games Ever Made (among those I have played)".

So, without further glitter, here is the list:

10. Kingdom Hearts, (2002 PS2)
Kingdom Hearts was an extremely unique game in that it combined traditional role playing elements (save the world, save the girl, spiky hair, level-up), with fantastic action battles and reminiscent Disney characters, plots, and storylines. The game was an absolute blast to play through several times, and paved the way for a (less successful) sequel. The battles were built right into the worlds (no need to switch to a different screen to enter a battler), and took strategy along with traditional hack and slash methods. Additionally, watching Donald Duck and Goofy demolish heartless after heartless will always reserve Kingdom Hearts a special place in my heart.

9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, (1992 SNES)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is without a doubt the first game that I really truly became obsessed with. The massive spectrum of the game was quite remarkable for 1992, and the seamlessness in which the world of Zelda worked was unimaginable. The action was intense and at times, excruciatingly frustrating. The sound and color was outstanding. This is definitely one of the few games that got my heart pounding faster than the "beep beep" that meant my health was way too low.

8. Metal Gear Solid, (1998, PS1)
Metal Gear Solid combined excellent graphics, intense action, a unique storyline, and a complete bad ass that we just loved play as into one beautiful package. This was an action game through and through to the core, and yet during some of the cut scenes, we couldn't help but feel like we were watching a movie or deeply involved into a square rpg. Metal Gear Solid set the tone for 3 sequels, each arguably better than its predecessor.

7. Suikoden (1996, PS1)
I picked up Suikoden about 8 years ago in a bargain bin at my local Gamestop. I had never heard of the game, but it was cheap so I though I'd give it a try. Within the first hour I was hooked. The art style was interesting and unique, and the story was extremely interesting. One of the things that really cements Suikoden into my favorite games list is the aspect of controlling an army. In many rpg games, you can travel around with 3 characters, and switch between a few others. In Suikoden, you travel around with 6 characters, and have the option of switching between over 100 characters! You also have a castle as your "home base". This uniqueness really vaults Suikoden high above other rpgs.

6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, (1998 N64)
The Ocarina of Time took the things that made A Link to the Past so successful, like a massive flowing world and incredibly immersive storyline, and thrusted them into a 3D world. With brilliant visuals and sound, a real night and day clock, and exceptional game play, Ocarina of Time is one game that can't be missed.

5. Super Smash Brothers, (1999 N64)
Super Smash Brothers is without a doubt the greatest multiplayer game I have ever played. Never before in a fighting game could you pit Pikachu against Link, or Fox against Mario. This game flowed so nicely, and the characters were balanced extremely well. While it was lackluster at best as a one player game, the 4 player smash-fests delivered extreme fun and laughter.

4. Pokemon Red and Blue, (1998 Gameboy)
Pokemon was definitely the first game that I actually wished was completely non-fiction. The idea of catching and raising creatures to fight for you was unique and worked wonderfully. Even if Pokemon was a console game, it would have been extremely successful. The added bonus of being able to take it with you wherever you went was amazing. The story was exceptional, and the replay value was second to none.

3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, (2004 PS2)
With the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 in 2008, almost everyone had taken San Andreas off the GTA throne and replaced it with the new edition. However, I still believe that San Andreas is the best of the series. The storyline was enthralling, unexpected, and exceptional for a game based around the idea of doing the wrong thing. Morals and values came into play, and I became completely involved for 10 days and 35 hours of my life. When it was released, the scope of San Andreas was completely astounding, and unheard of. The soundtrack filled the game out nicely. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was an experience that shouldn't be passed up.

2. Starcraft (1998 PC)
Without a doubt, I put in at least 5 times as many hours into Starcraft as I have with any other game. While the single player missions were fun, Starcraft was absolutely about the multiplayer. Never before has a game made me want to beat someone so badly. The ridiculously amazing replay value, in terms of both quantity and quality, makes Starcraft a legend. This is a game so addicting that my time playing it used to be limited by my mother for the sake of my sanity. That's how great of a game it is.

And now, for the GREATEST GAME EVER MADE (according to me, some don't even believe it is the best in its long series)...

1. Final Fantasy VII (1997 PS1)
While it had some competition for the top spot in this list with Starcraft, Final Fantasy VII easily takes the thrown as the greatest game ever made. The graphics were absolutely stunning for its time. Every time I look back at the game I say to myself, "wow, the playstation was capable of this?" The music and sound were simply fascinating; some of the soundtrack I can listen too over and over again. The expansiveness of the game was incredible, with a giant world and probably 50 hours of main storyline. The side quests and mini games were fun and deep within themselves.

One of the main draws of the game, however, is it's incredible story. The storyline was incredible unique, and beyond just "saving the girl" and "saving the world". It didn't just match cinema like storytelling, but it easily surpassed it.

These qualities make Final Fantasy VII the GREATEST GAME EVER MADE!

Some other games worth mentioning, that didn't quite crack the top ten:

Gears of War (2006 X360)- An interesting story and incredible shooting action.
Metal Warriors (1995 SNES)- Superb multiplayer action in a quirky, 2d package.
Perfect Dark (2000 N64)- Cool single player, and beautifully unique multiplayer.
Final Fantasy X (2001 PS2)- Amazing graphically, with a immense story to boot.
Gran Turismo 3 (2001 PS2)- Superior realism with slick looking cars and upgrades.
Super Mario World (1991 SNES)- A classic, it defined platforming, and was a lot of fun.

New GPS Combines Useful Features

One of the places that gadgets are becoming increasingly popular is in the great outdoors. It used to be that people flocked to the wilderness in an effort to escape man made things and a lot of the luxuries and nuisances associated with more advanced technology. Now though many technological gadgets have become so light weight and useful that many hikers, boaters, mountain bikers, backpackers, skiers, snow shoers, and mountaineers see no reason not to bring a lot of compact luxuries along into the back country.

Some types of technologies lend themselves especially well to being used in the woods because of their light weight and their ability to function without the support of other types of technologies. For example, many people do not go into the wilderness without a mobile phone for safety reasons. In this case, the fact that mobile phones are so light weight that they make sense to carry even though they don't necessarily work in places where tall, steep mountains would get in the way of finding a tower signal. Fortunately most people don't go very deep into the wilderness, so a mobile phone still makes sense to carry.

For people whose adventures take them farther afield, satellite technology offers a good way to stay connected. For instance, if one wants to have a way of contacting the outside world in case of emergency, a satellite phone is a much better choice than a mobile phone because a satellite phone will still work in places where there are too many miles or mountains in the way of getting a tower signal.

Perhaps even more popular than satellite phones is GPS technology. GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System allows users to determine where they are, often within a dozen feet or so, instantly without having to use a compass and make complicated calculations. This system is based on signals that come from satellites in geosynchronous orbit around the Earth, so the signals are available just about anywhere.

Now there are GPS devices that combine navigation features with other information available from satellite signals. A great new example of a device that bundles satellite technology features together is the Bushnell Weather Tracker ONIX 400. This device not only has the navigation capabilities of a typical GPS (the ability to determine position, speed, number of miles traveled, etc.), but it also comes with access to XM satellite radio channels and satellite based weather information. This unit is so advanced that it will even layer weather data over the map that's displayed on the screen of the device so that you can see where a new weather system is coming from. In many ways, the advanced warning that the Weather Tracker ONIX 400 can provide for outdoors people is a much better safety device than any mobile phone because it allows them to avoid trouble to begin with- which is preferable to having to contact someone for rescue after getting into trouble.

Karl Smith sells the popular software No Adware. You can download a trial now to check if you have spyware or adware. Karl teaches from his own experiences. We recommend his software as the first solution against slow PC performance.

Is the Spore Game For You?

If you are an avid gamer that enjoys titles such as Crysis and Call of Duty, then Spore is probably not for you. This game is going to appeal to a wide range of players, possibly the widest range in gaming history. Evolved from the very successful The Sims game, Spore is going to be the ground-breaking game of the year and may possibly become the most played game ever. Spore game designer, Will Wright, has come up with a brilliant concept which is letting you build your very own virtual universe from nothing ... but a spore! As the player comes out of one evolutionary phase, what he, or she, did in the preceding phase will strongly affect how they start in the next phase of the spore game. As you work through each step, the tasks will become increasingly more difficult and so this will definitely be a challenging game.

If you enjoyed The Sims with its interactive game play, building and buying stuff, you are really going to be addicted to this new game. You start out with a single cell organism and it is up to you how you evolve your creatures from the primordial soup. I don't think there is such a thing as an end to this game. Once you have your creature, then there is the tribe you can create. From there you can build a civilization and then on to your very own universe and space. At this level gamers will be able to use tools, like water and terra-forming, to tinker with their universe.

There are countless of creations to be made and shared. Upload your own design and let other spore players use them as well. The creation tools that Spore provides you with are going to give you hours, or days, of fun creating, building and sharing your own universe. This game is going to be hugely popular with female gamers and I predict they will eventually rule the Spore cosmos.

Addicted to Spore already? You can find a selection of Spore starter kits and much more here at Spore Games And if you are really serious about Spore, why not follow the ultimate Spore Blog

Satellite TV on PC Puts Extra Cash in Your Pocket

The power of the Internet now makes possible satellite TV on PC. Your normal home PC can now be transformed into a super television allowing for access to the best the entire world has to offer. The time has ended when your television feed can only come from cable or normal satellite companies. The era of television via the PC is now upon us.

Most of us pay over $60 a month for cable or satellite service. Assuming an upgraded channel package, this amounts often shoots upward of $100 a month. Few realize that writing this check each month is a waste. They are actually paying unnecessary money to reduce their channel selection. Yes, by selecting cable you are limiting your channel lineup compared to satellite through computer technology.

Family budgets today are tight enough. With the price of everyday necessities like food and gasoline going through the roof, every penny saved is helpful. Reducing monthly expenses by up to $100 is an attractive proposition to almost everyone. However, giving up cable is unthinkable. Few realize they can have their cake and eat it too.

If you have a regular home computer and Internet access then you are able to use your PC to be a conduit to up to 3000 channels. Yes, three thousand. You will never again utter the words "there is nothing to watch on TV". Viewers of all ages and tastes always have something seemingly tailor made for them.

This daunting amount of channels allows for choice between the best the entire world puts out to broadcast. Best of all, it only requires a small one time software license fee. With satellite television through your PC monthly bills can disappear. The best news is that the software necessary for the best viewing has greatly come down in price.

This software now allows for effective reception and management of the dizzying array of channels which this service provides. At one time it could cost hundreds of dollars or entail monthly subscription fees. Now, some of the best packages can be had for under $75. You pay this amount once and never again see a bill relating to your television viewing.

One can imagine the selection entailed with up to 3000 channels. Whether it be sports, movies or kid's shows there is always a multiplicity of choices to ponder. Fans are now able to track their far off hometown teams. Movie buffs have a world if indie flicks and foreign films brought into their living rooms.

There is now no excuse stopping you from moving to satellite TV on PC. The costs are lower and the selection is wider. The ability to hook up most any computer to today's televisions allows for incorporation into home theaters for those who have them. The amount of people making the switch does not bode well for the future of the cable companies.

New Technologies Change Things

New technology and software solutions, especially large-scale solutions, generally mean changes to operations, business processes, employee learning, reporting, and even how a business engages its client-base.

If your organization is faced with significant change, you might want to consider undertaking a change facilitation process to help ensure that everyone affected can play a role in making change happen effectively and efficiently.

Effective change facilitation requires optimal involvement of users, especially regarding how their particular roles and responsibilities will be affected by a new application or business process. Our facilitation of change begins with ensuring the right people are at the table reviewing business requirements and working together to determine appropriate user Interfaces, reporting requirements, help screen requirements, and learning needs.

We believe as well that line users require appropriate involvement in adjusting business processes, where required, to best utilize the new system.

Executive leadership is paramount Employees look to executive management for leadership and inspiration when faced with major change in the business environment. While the CEO and other key management staff do not necessarily have to be leading the facilitated change process, they should be clear with their employees and other stakeholders about the objectives and intended benefits of the changes. The role of executive leadership should include articulating the vision, leading group meetings at key milestones, ensuring that ongoing communication channels are in place, and providing clear guidance to those who carry responsibilities for the design of change.

Identify concerns and aspirations up front When we engage a client in this work, we stress the importance of working with all stakeholders up front to identify the worries, concerns, resistances, as well as aspirations they have with respect to the many changes coming at them. Such an analysis helps to create an appropriate change strategy.

The stages of a change project A change project occurs over stages, from the identification of business needs all the way through project implementation. For those affected by the change, they need to be "helped" along the change path, first by increasing their awareness of the need to change, which is typically best accomplished by involving them appropriately in the initial stages of the project or initiative.

This involvement builds their desire to find solutions to their needs and challenges. As the project moves through its conceptual stage, their knowledge grows in terms of needs and solutions. They begin learning about what new abilities they will have, which require regular reinforcement well past implementation. An appropriate change process will address these stages effectively and in a timely manner.

The change team Given that the software applications are often implemented in concert with business model changes, we recommend striking a change team that involves key vendors/suppliers and relevant representation from the organization's staff. This central team is responsible for working with all affected employees and often key customers in order to ensure optimal issues management and to solicit important feedback throughout the project.

For large-scale initiatives, it can be helpful to contract with an external consultant to coordinate, if not lead change management activities.

Communication is key Part and parcel of a stellar change process is regular, informative, and clear communication throughout all phases of the initiative. If a technology initiative is affecting many employees in various locations, it might be prudent to create a website exclusively devoted to the project, where staff and other stakeholders can go to glean the latest news about progress, provide input as required, download pertinent materials as they are developed, and communicate with one another in functional groupings.

Memories of Firebase Illingsworth, Vietnam

We moved in to build Illingsworth during March. The site was a grassy clearing. We arrived late in the day and started building gun pits for our mortars, hooches for sleeping, and storage for our ammo. We had our mortars, 105's, our radar unit, a line company, and our battalion headquarters (TOC). We were told that we could not go to sleep until we had 3 layers of sandbags on our sleeping hooches. It started raining about sundown. Filling sand bags became very difficult. Around 11:00 pm we gave up on the sandbags. I laid down on a cote and placed a sheet of plastic over me. I woke up at first light the next morning and thought I had lost my hearing. Then I realized the cote was holding water which was up over my ears.

The next day we continued to build the fire base. We had been told that we would be firing on targets in Cambodia. Charlie had been moving down in Cambodia and then moving across the border to attach our units. Illingsworth was called a jump LZ. We would be there for a few days and then move to a new location. By about the second day there, six 155's were moved in. We were getting fire missions several times a day. The 155's were firing day and night. The 155's were pounding targets on a regular basis. We were getting so much ammo for the mortars each day that we could not possibly fire it in one day. We were having to stack up boxes of mortar ammo on the ground. At one point we just rolled two pallets of mortar ammo off the mule and let it lay where it landed. After we had been there several days, two track-mounted 8 inch artillery guns were moved to the fire base. You may have noticed that I never mentioned any wire or claymore mines. We didn't have any. There was nothing between us and the wood line.

A couple of weeks before the end of March Bobby Barker came to me and asked if I would consider letting him go to the rear to get his teeth fixed. He said you know sarge may just a couple of days before I am supposed to go home. Bobby was a great guy, he always did his job, and he had a great attitude. I told Bobby that I would like for him to leave the next day. I wrote a little note the 1st Sgt asking him to send Bobby to have his teeth fixed. I suggested that Bobby should stay in the rear since he only had a couple of weeks left in country. Bobby left on chopper after we all told him goodbye and wished him well.

Near the end of March, a young Lt named Mike Russell showed up on the firebase. He had several months in country with the 4th ID. The 4th went home, but Mike did not have enough time in-country to go with them. The unlucky guy ended up with us. By the end of March, Mike had been there long enough for us to become pretty good friends. He was a squared away guy. A couple of days before the end of March, Firebase Jay got hit really hard. They were located a few clicks from us. The sky looked like it was on fire. I didn't know any guys on Jay, but I continually prayed during their attack that they would be able to defend against the attach and that we would not get the same dose of medicine.

On the last day of March, 1970, things seemed extremely tense. I saw high ranking people leaving the firebase on choppers. I look up and see Bobby Barker walking in from one of the choppers. Bobby came over to me and said sarge' I just had to come out and let you see how good I look with my teeth fixed and I wanted to tell everyone goodbye. Bobby gave me a big smile as he showed his teeth and said, "My momma is going to be so proud of me and my teeth." I told Bobby to go see everyone and get back on a chopper and get out of here. I then said Bobby weren't you supposed to leave today. He said yey I didn't get on the plane, I got on a chopper instead to come see you guys.

Ammo for the 8 inch guns was moved on to the firebase all day. They had the same problem that we did only worse. They had tons of ammo and no place to put it. They fired at the wood line a few time during the day. It was truly awesome to see the power of these weapons. Late in the day I saw Bobby was still on the firebase. There was a chopper on the ground. I told Bobby to run out there and get on that chopper. He said sarge', please let me just stay out here with the guys I love just one more night. I said no Bobby, you need to leave. He walked away from me.

At about 11:30 pm, our radar unit notified Lt. Russell and me that we had a lot of movement on the Red Ball which was just across the border. The border was about 1 click from the firebase. They had determined that the NVA were moving troops down in trucks and turning west into a large field. They would unload the troops and then go back to get more. We fired mortars, 105's, and 155's on their position for about an hour. I thought we had wiped them out. We laughed and said they would have the rest of the night to drag their dead out of the area. I laid down in FDC and Lt. Russell did also. At about 2:30 am all hell broke loose. Mike and I ran out into a cloud of dust. There were gooks standing on the berm firing RPG's at TOC. They were everywhere. I went to all three gun pits and directed the squad leaders to fire charge zeros randomly to the west and to keep it going as fast as possible. Mike and I both ended up in Blue Three which was led by Juan Romero. Juan and the rest of his squad worked to pull down charges to charge zero and Mike and I handled the gun. I was aiming the gun and Mike was hanging rounds. At one time I told Mike that I was afraid I was going to send one straight up and it would come back down on us. Mike said, "At this point, I really don't think it will make a shit." Blue One was wiped out with a satchel charge. Luckily, they all got out of the pit. Blue Two was wiped out by a gas stove from our kitchen tent. The stove blew up and sailed through the air leaving a trail of burning gas and landed in Blue Two. As with Blue One, the guys all got out and went to the berm. I saw Bobby running for FDC. I yelled at Bobby not to go to FDC. He yelled out that he did not have a rifle. Bobby disappeared in the dust.

We saw gooks on the 8 inch guns trying to turn them around. The 8 inchers were about 50 yards from us. A barrage of small arms fire erupted toward the 8 inchers.

At some point during the battle, I tried to call FDC on the land line. It was dead. It had been working earlier when I talked to them. They had tried to call a fire mission to us. I had answered the horn. They started calling out the fire mission. I said, "we don't need a direction, charge, or elevation, we can see them." Looking back now I realize I should have told them to get their butts out there to help us.

Some time after the battle had been going on for what seemed like forever, the eight inch ammo blew up. We all left the ground. I thought we were all going to die right then. We looked up and saw things in the air that are not supposed to be there. Things like PSP, tree trunks, ammo, and lots of dirt. The problem was that we knew that it was going to have to come back down and it looked like it was headed our way. I will admit that I just about lost it at that point. I had a wife and a two year old son at home that I figured just lost their husband and father. Though we were a short distance from the 8 inch ammo, we did not take the direct blast. The 8 inch artillery guys had left a track mounted ammo carrier and a five ton truck parked between us and their ammo. The next morning, the 5 ton was demolished and the ammo carrier was on its side looking really bad.

We continued to fight off the gooks for some time. At some time around 4:30 am we noticed that everything had suddenly gotten very quiet. For a while we felt alone on the firebase though no one mentioned it. Then we heard someone screaming, "Richards, are you guys still over there?" I had a bad feeling. I screamed, "Yes." The person then yelled out that the gooks had that half of the LZ and we needed to get the hell out of there. We all went over the blast wall like snakes. In basic training I had been about the fastest low crawler at Sand Hill. I started out crawling along with the other guys and then thought that I should go to FDC to be sure everyone got out of there. I turned left and headed for FDC. As I approached FDC, I saw Bobby Barker laying on a stretcher. He had dirt all over him. I crawled up and tried to get Bobby to get up. I then realized that Bobby was dead. Damn! I said my quick farewell to Bobby and started plowing through the dust to the direction where I had last heard that voice of hope. Thank you to the drill sgts. at Sand Hill that made low crawl for miles. That crawl was easy.

We grouped near the berm. I looked for my guys but could not find them. We had Blue Max choppers spraying their mini guns all around the west side of the berm. They were a beautiful site and sound. Things quieted down and we waited for daybreak. As the sun rose and we could see the LZ, I realized that we had been wiped out, but we survived. I walked around looking for my guys. I walked along the line of wounded guys. I almost walked by Sgt. Huggins. Huggins and I came to the mortar platoon the same evening at LZ Ike. We got hit hard that night too. That's another story. Huggins reached out and grabbed my leg. I knelt down to talk to him. He said, "I'm the lucky one, I'm going home." He had gotten a bad wound on his calf. I wished him the best and walked on looking for more of my guys. We had choppers coming in to haul out the wounded. I helped load the choppers.

Those birds were being piloted by true heroes. At one point there was so much blood in the floor of one of the choppers that we threw dirt in on the blood so people could stand on the floor. One pilot insisted that we keep putting people on his chopper because it was going to be a while before another one got back to our location. The pilot told us to pick up on his skids and run with the chopper. He picked up speed and then converted to altitude just before the wood line. I would love to know that guy's name. I'll never forget him. He is a true hero. I guess I helped load Pete Lemon on one of the choppers that morning. Pete was a member of the Recon Platoon in our company. The faces were all dirty, bloody, and contorted with pain so I don't remember any of them in particular. Pete later won the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic actions that night.

After all the wounded had been loaded, I walked over to the dead. I started to help move the bags. On the first one I made the mistake of getting in the middle. Anyone who has ever taken on that position knows the problem I had. I knew Bobby was in one of those bags. I really did not want to know which one. Bobby wasn't even supposed to be there.

I found Mike, Hutch, Juan, and Terry. We all went back to the mortar area to see what was left. We were amazed that we had gotten out of there alive. At Blue three there was a unexploded rocket buried in the ground two feet from where I had been inside the gun pit. Ammo was blown all over the entire area. There were very large pieces of schrapnal from the 8 inch ammo. There was paper everywhere. We looked at the 5 ton and the ammo carrier. It was then that we realized what had saved our lives. It was just by chance that they had left the units parked where they did. They had so much ammo in their area that I think they could not get any closer to their area.

Some little jerk Captain came in with a group that was to relieve us. The little jerk told us to start policing up the area. Lt. Russell walked over to the jerk and told him that he would have him know that his men had been in a battle all night and they were not about to police up a damn thing. The jerk asked him if he realized who he was talking to. Mike said, "Sir, I don't give a shit who you are or what your damn rank is. My men will not clean up this mess. They can hardly stand up." You gotta love Mike Russell. He's still got that same edge. No crap, no way, no where!

Juan Romero and I went down in the crater created when the 8 inch ammo blew up. It was huge. I believe Hutch made our picture in the hole. We then went out to look at some of the dead gooks. I looked at one that had his left arm blown off. You could see the socket where the ball joint had been. Surprisingly, the guy had about three rounds of gauze wrapped around his shoulder. He had been wounded when we fired on them for an hour. They put a bandage on him and sent him on the attack. I never knew any of our guys who would have done that.

I remember going out to the landing pad to get on a chopper. I looked back at the firebase with total disbelief. The chopper lifted off and we all looked back at the firebase in total silence. I don't remember anything being said until some time after we got to a rear area that we were taken to.

Randall was a member of the 1st Cavalry Division, E, 2/8 during the Vietnam conflict. He served in Vietnam from Sept 1969 to Sept 1970. Randall is retired from public education. He has a EdD from The University of Georgia. Randall created http://we-were-soldiers.com as a site where soldiers and veterans can write about their military experiences. Randall carried the pain and guilt of war for twenty-five years at times reaching the breaking point. No one knew the internal pain he bore. An old army buddy organized a reunion in 1995. Meeting, talking, verifying provided relief for Randall and each of the men who are part of the reunions. They meet every fall with men and their wifes from all over the southeastern US. The first year that one of the men came he told of his brother committing suicide during the previous year because of the pain that he carried as a result of the Vietnam War. He said, "I didn't know anybody cared." We cared, and a lot of other people care. We came home from Vietnam and were treated as though we had committed terrible acts. We were called baby killers, murderers, and savages. We had eggs, rocks, and tomatoes thrown at us when we returned to American soil. How could we not develop unbearable pain and the need for help. There was no help for us. We were released into society to find our way on our own. If you see a vet, thank him for his service. He may need that word of encouragement.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Review - Xbox 360

Being a fan of the original Ninja Gaiden series, you could have imagined my excitement when NG was released for the Xbox. The game was non stop action and a difficulty level great enough to challenge even us hardcore gamers.

The main story in the game is that a woman representing the CIA is looking for Ryu, and in doing so, she gets captured in the process. After saving her, you find out that the enemies are after the demon statue that's hidden away in the Hayabusa Village. The statue has the power to awaken greater fiends that are slumbering throughout the world. This game is a supposed prequel or takes place before the events in Ninja Gaiden 1 for the NES.

Ninja Gaiden 2 follows the tradition of "No way this game is that hard" difficulty. The enemies in the game have been given a higher difficulty level and they always attack you in groups greater than 3. On screen, I have encountered at least 8 active enemies thirsting for my blood and didn't encounter any slow down.

The new feature of being able to chop off your enemies limbs is a great new addition. It makes things a little more interesting because some enemies become more dangerous when their trying to kill you with one arm. Example, in the first couple of levels there will be an enemy that unless you finish them off will kamikaze himself and take a huge amount of health from you. Let's not forget to mention that the level of gore in the game is pretty high.

Speaking of finishing enemies off, the new obliteration moves are not only bloody, but extremely useful. These moves can be done when an enemy is hopping around on one leg. There are also new moves, new ninpo and new weapons. Just to name a few, a sickle with a weight at the end, Tonfa's and my favorite, claws.

Wall running and other jumping puzzles are still pretty much the same. There really isn't any new moves that Ryu has acquired. Guess he just trained in the ancient art of I'm going to chop your head off for looking at me the wrong way.

To end it all, I would give this game a 8.9 which is a really good score. So, whether your a fan of the series or your looking for a hella good Hack and Slash, this game should be one you add to your collection.

Andre Garcia is a fan of gaming and follows the industry very closely. For more gaming goodness, you can check out his blog at http://www.videogamesforus.com If your not satisfied enough with a text review of this game, you can also check out his video review of Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360.

Mini World of Warcraft Mining Guide - from Valkor's Gold Making Guide

So you want to do some mining in World of Warcraft, but dont know where to go to make a lot of gold? Valkors Gold Making Guide provides a few tips on how to improve your mining skill and the best World of Warcraft Mining locations. These locations are the places where you can maximize your time and get a good amount of gold in return.

Instead of starting out with World of Warcraft mining locations that provide only a little return, lets look at some places where you can really bring in the gold from mining. The ore we are going to mine is Thorium. This ore alone sells for a good price at the Auction House (8-10 gold per stack), but one of the added bonuses of mining Thorium is the chance to get an Arcane Crystal. These crystals can sell for 15-18 gold each at the Auction House. They have a pretty good drop rate so you should be able to collect some while mining Thorium.

The three best places to mine Thorium are the Burning Steppes, the Eastern Plaguelands, and Winterspring. Ive had a good amount of success in the Eastern Plaguelands, but Im sure it varies from server to server. Now, since these places might be a little crowded, you can head over to UnGoro and mine Thorium from some veins in that area. Its not uncommon to make over 50 gold an hour just mining Thorium and Arcane Crystals in these areas.

I hope youve found this little World of Warcraft Mining Guide to be helpful. At the very least, you now know where to go to make some easy gold via mining. Make sure you have plenty of room for you mining loot. Nothing worse than only being able to mine only a few stacks of Thorium before heading back to the Auction House to unload. Time is money in World of Warcraft. Being able to bring more loot back to the auction house means more gold in your pocket.

Want more WoW Mining Tips or to learn Valkors secrets to making 200 gold an hour through 100% legit tips? Pick up Valkors Gold Making Guide and find out how he does it.

Toys and the Racial Divide

Did you know that there used to be a Crayola crayon that was called 'flesh'? They changed the name in 1962 to 'peach' in recognition of the fact that not everybody's skin color is the same. This was quite probably a fairly reasonable step to take, but there are occasions when, looking at toys that are available today, and that used to be available, you have to ask the question - have toy manufacturers gone mad with political correctness?

Go into any toy shop and you will see an equal mix of races amongst the dolls on offer - Caucasian, African, Asian, all available of course in both male and female. I haven't yet seen a cross dressing Barbie or a gay Ken, but just wait - they'll be along one day, I'm almost sure of it.

Of course, toy manufacturers have two points to bear in mind. The first is, naturally, marketability. If all dolls were Caucasian, then it may quite possibly be that a significant proportion of the potential market would feel that they were not being catered for, and would choose something else instead. But toy manufacturers are also very aware of the impression that they give children, and the responsibility which comes with providing images, concepts and potential stereotypes which could encourage conflict, misunderstanding and divide.

To what extent the manufacturers consider these two points is hard to tell, although my money would be that their chief concern is for the former of the two points, with the latter being given more consideration by the legal and marketing departments.

And yet, let us think about this. If white children are only provided with white dolls, and black children with black dolls, does this really cater for a multicultural society, or is this not engendering a greater divide? Would it not make more sense for all children, regardless of race, to have a mixture of both black and white dolls? Surely the experience of caring for a doll of another color is more likely to encourage familiarity, concern, care and acceptance than if the groups are divided as though by a wall - a wall which can only grow taller and more impenetrable as the child grows into an adult, dragging behind them all their stereotypes, familiar concepts and prejudices.

Sometimes it seems as though the very prejudices and preconceptions we seek to overthrow as a society are fostered and encouraged, albeit unintentionally, through tradition, ignorance, and toy manufacturers catering for all separate and distinct parts of our multicultural society.

Perhaps the onus is on us, as consumers and parents, but ask yourself - would you buy your child dolls or figurines of other races? Or has the thought simply not occurred to you? Perhaps this is the crux of the problem, and we simply haven't caught on to the opportunities we are being presented with.

Then again, it might all simply be a marketing scam. It's hard to tell really. Perhaps the toy manufacturers are behind the complexities of our society and are really the driving forces behind the development of society. Or they might just be making crayons, boggle eyed teddies and gloop.

Indian Retailers Accelerate Evolving Pace

Retail industry in India is gradually edging its way towards becoming the next boom industry with contributing more than 10% to Countrys GDP and around 8% employment. Several Indian and global players are developing strategies to enter such a fast paced and growing market. Also the whole retail industry is taking new shape, the traditional market giving way for the more organized market in the form of departmental stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets and specialty stores.

What makes Indian retail industry a most growing business? Answer is growing middle class, double income households, and large working young population. All these have significantly increased the countrys total disposable income. Changing demographics and life styles also favor the shopping tendency.

Entering in to retail chain on a national level requires huge amount of money and management too. Indian giant, Reliance- the countrys most valuable company is planning to open about 1500 outlets spread approximately a third of towns and cities across India by March 2007 with its new company, Reliance Retail Ltd. (RRL) having 100 per cent stake in the company. The reliance group about $5.6 billion retail venture will definitely shake the existing market and creating hurdles in the way of global giants Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Tesco Plc who are about to enter the Indian market.

In the beginning of 2006, the government of India announced that it would allow foreign companies to own up to 51% of a single-brand retail company, such as Nike. As a result, companies including Zara, Gap, Timex and United Colors of Benetton have announced plans to enter the market. But for the companies that sell a variety of brands, such as Wal-Mart and Tesco such relaxation is not yet extended.

Wal-Mart is eager to hence investigating into various options. One way is to open a Sam's Club wholesale business through a joint venture and sell to retailers. This option evades the issue of not being able to sell directly to consumers and still establishes a presence in the local market. Similarly, Tesco is finding other way by engaging in partnership with Home Care Retail Mart Pvt. Ltd and expects to open nearly 50 stores by 2010.

So being aware of governments intention of relaxing rules for retail global giants like Wal-Mart, Reliance is planning proactively. Reliance Retail first studied the potential of all possible categories of products and services retailing. Reliance is keen on capturing market leadership in every possible retail category, once it has consolidated its retail operations. Company is evaluating each category on the basis of market size as well as growth rate and potential.

Reliance is launching its first retail store in Hyderabad on 18th October 2006. Nearly 28 other outlets are also expected to open in Andhra Pradesh on the same day. After Andhra Pradesh, probably Punjab is the next destination to serve.

Reliance Retail has plans to launch outlets in two different formats, Feel Fresh and Feel Fresh Plus. Feel Fresh stores will stock fresh fruits, vegetables and staples and expected to spread over 3,000 to 5,000 square feet area. On the other hand, Feel Fresh Plus stores will be spread over about 10,000 to15,000 square feet area, and stock fruit and vegetables as well as apparel, FMCG items, consumer electronics, and even medicines. Both these formats will be wholly company owned and managed.

After the launch in AP and Punjab, Reliance Retail is planning to spread out to other big cities such as Mumbai and Delhi, for that Reliance has identified up to 80 locations for each city. With its aim to expand its retail business and satellite township plan, Reliance seems to become the worlds biggest real estate owner in next few years.

As a result of Indian retailers gearing up for competition from overseas and local rivals by acquiring retail space in India's capital New Delhi, financial center Mumbai and technology city Bangalore, and the next set of big cities Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. It is pushing up rents, getting almost doubled. Intensifying competition is also likely to affect staff costs.

The company has already signed agreements with Punjab and West Bengal governments to tie up for procurements and roll out retail outlets. Company had been looking at strategic alliances with other co-operatives too.

Though Reliance being the top name talked in Indian retail Industry, it is not the only player. Other Indian business groups likes Bharti Group and Aditya Birla group are planning to start retail chains soon. Tata Group, which already runs the Westside chain of lifestyle stores, is stepping in to electronics retailing. RPG Enterprises which already has a total of 80 stores, plans to add a store every two days in October.

As all these groups expand their retail network, they will have to offer more choices to differentiate themselves and need to workout in each of the following areas:

1. The best resources for product procurement

2. Good inventory systems at both, retail stores and warehouses

3. Sales variation across different regions in the country

4. Seasonal sales variation

5. Wastage of products and percentage of returns thereon

6. The number of Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) across categories and brands

7. The credit policies that retailers normally get from their suppliers

8. The average gross margin on each product category

9. Brand preferences of consumers

Conclusion

The strategies and magnitudes of retail forays by the Indian retailers assure of attaining far reach to economic implications by directly affecting the lifestyle of millions of consumers, besides indirectly influencing livelihood of other millions.

Business analysts feel that Reliance has benefit of its massive financial strength along with past achievements of implementing gigantic projects in record time, at reasonable investments worldwide.

Quite clearly, Indian retail players are now all set and ready to get triumph over the organized retail sectors. The Indian retail industry is now on a verge to experience rocket speed actions and competitions, allowing the consumers to get the best deals out of it.

Playing Games With Your Kids

Who likes to play kid games? Everyone likes to play them. Well, everyone should like to play them at least. Ever since the first child's imagination began to develop, is when these games were most certainly developed. This is because a game created by a child could be just about anything. Playing one doesn't take a huge amount of skill, nor any age requirement. Playing these games is for everyone. Of course they are called KID games, but adults still often like to enjoy them as well. There is an infinite amount of games available. Some were made by adults, and some were made by children. They could have been made on accident, or could have been made on purpose, either way it doesn't matter, because the end result was enjoyment. Now, there are a couple of different kinds of games for kids, and different forms of playing them. There are movement and activity games, thought and memory games, singing and dancing games, and many, many more. The categories really never end.

Now, everyone knows kids like to move. Kids like to be hyper, run around, and have fun. What better way to have fun, then make games out of the activities they already do? When kids are together, they really don't do anything other than play. It's the question every child asks their friend, "Do you want to come over and play?" Whenever kids are together, they are almost always playing some kind of a game. The one game everyone has heard of, is tag. Tag is the classic outdoor game, that every single kid and adult will play some time in their life. It's a simple form of entertainment, where one person chases everyone else, trying to tag them so they are no longer, "it". When this was no longer good enough, the creation of toys to aid kid games were added. Balls, trampolines, pools, etc; whatever it is, a kid can make a game out of it.

When it's time to put away the toys, and head inside, there are still plenty of ways for kids to play games. They can play memory games, like matching things together. Board games are one of the biggest forms of entertainment. There are many, many different kinds of board games, with something that will appeal to everyone. Even drawing, or playing hide 'n' seek, are all good ways to have fun indoors. With the access of the internet, people will find that this is the biggest gateway to playing kid games. They're easy to find, and fun to play. You can find any genre of game, and any type of game, for kids to play. They can be educational, or just plain for fun.

Another thing kids like to do, is play dancing and singing games. Turning on some music, will easily get children playing their own games, or games organized by an adult. There is literally, an endless amount of ways to play all these games. They can be played virtually, in real life, with friends, with adults, by yourself, and the options still go on. It's amazing to think about just how many games have went through a child's mind, and were completely unique, and had never been thought of before. It's easy to see, that there are many kid games to play, and there always will be.

Mario For the Nintendo Wii Console - Who is He Though?

Mario is portrayed in games and entertainment as a kind-hearted, brave hero with with a love of pasta and pizza. Mario games, on the whole, have sold more than 290 million units on the last count, making the series the best-selling of all time. But just who is this chap and where did he come from?

Mario has appeared in over two hundred video games since he was created way back in 1981 and has since, taken on the role of Nintendo's mascot and has been a huge selling point together with lots of top selling merchandise. He is of course part of the hugely successful Nintendo wii currently taking the world by storm.

The little chap is depicted as a short, pudgy happy-go-lucky Italian plumber who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom, where he is very much seen and treated as a hero best known for constantly thwarting the plans of the evil King Bowser to kidnap Princess Peach and take over the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario's cheerful personality is reflected in his high pitched voice and of course we only hear short phrases like, "Okey dokey" but we all know his voice.

Although his outfit usually changes to suit whichever game he is in, Mario's basic appearance has changed little over the years since he first appeared in the arcade game Donkey Kong where I believe he was a character named Jumpman. He was later used in other genres such as the educational game Mario Paint, appearing in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and Mario Pinball Land for the Game Boy Advance.

Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, apparently once said that Mario wears a cap simply because he finds it difficult to draw hair! I don't know how true that is but it is a nice, little interesting point regarding a hugely successful character who is still selling extremely well worldwide.
